The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Is a test taken by people who intend to study or work in a country where English is the language of communication. IELTS is available in two versions - Academic and General Training. Academic IELTS is for those who apply for higher education or professional registration. General Training is for those who migrate to Australia, Canada and the UK or apply for secondary education, training programs, and work experience in an English-speaking environment. IELTS score is accepted by more than 10,000 institutes and training organizations across the world.

IELTS Test Pattern 2018
The two major bodies responsible for formulating and designing the IELTS 2018 test pattern are Educational Testing Service (ETS) and British Council. British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment conduct the IELTS 2018 test to measure a candidate’s proficiency level in English language. The Test Pattern of IELTS 2018 is designed to reflect the daily life use of English in different walk of life; at study, at work, at play, and at social gathering. Having said that, there are two versions of the IELTS test, namely IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training and the results are graded on the unique IELTS 9-band scale for both the formats. In accordance with the IELTS test pattern 2018, both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are composed of four sections namely, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. While each candidate is required to take the same Listening and speaking modules in both the versions of the IELTS exam pattern 2018, it is the Reading and Writing modules that alters for the two versions - IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The total duration for the IELTS test is 2 hours 45 minutes. Listening, Reading and Writing tests are scheduled together while speaking test may either be taken on the same day or within seven days before or after the IELTS test of Listening, Reading and Writing modules.
According to the test pattern of IELTS 2018, the speaking test is conducted as a one-on-one test to assess a candidate’s English communication skills. The candidates are put through a real-life conversation with a real person (not necessarily a native speaker) to get their English conversation skills tested. The responses are recorded by the examiner and later evaluated by the certified IELTS examiners.

How is IELTS Test 2018 scheduled?
On the test day of IELTS 2018 exam, candidates appear for the Listening, Reading and Writing tests one after the other in the same sequence, without any breaks in between the module sets. These components are always taken in the above-mentioned order as given in the IELTS 2018 Test pattern, barring the Speaking module.
According to the IELTS Test pattern 2018, the Speaking module can be scheduled either after break on the same day as the other three tests, or within seven days before or after the registered date of test. However, it is decided by the officials and much depends on the specific IELTS test centre from where the candidate is appearing from. As per the test pattern of IELTS 2018, the speaking test is conducted as a one-on-one test to assess a candidate’s holistic proficiency English communication skills. This means candidates are put through a real-life conversation with a real person to get their English conversation skills tested. However, the responses of the test taker are recorded for detailed evaluation. The test results of IELTS depend on the overall performance of the candidate in IELTS 2018.

IELTS Exam Fee. In India, the registration fee for IELTS exam for all testsadministered up to 31st March 2018, the fee is INR 12,100 and for those administered after 1st April 2018, it is INR 12,650.

IELTS Exam Slot Booking
For booking a slot for the IELTS exam, the aspirant needs a valid passport and a debit/credit card to pay the registration fee of INR 12650.

    The aspirant must be above the age of 16 for taking the IELTS exam.

Test Schedule
British Council Global Schedule has allocated 48 days per year for the IELTS exam. You can choose any one date according to your convenience. After you decide on when to start preparing for IELTS, you should choose a date at least three to four months before the college application deadline. Doing this should give you plenty of time to retake the exam if you feel the first attempt wasn’t great.
